About this Talk

A myriad of strength sports such as powerlifting, weightlifting and strongman/strongwoman are considered as weight class restricted sports. A majority of athletes in these sports also train at a bodyweight higher than the weight class they compete in. Hence, these athletes utilise some form of rapid weight loss (RWL) strategy to help them make weight prior to weigh-in. The current research on RWL for the strength athlete is scarce and requires more research, however certain conjecture can be made via research done in combat sport athletes to provide a basis for the strength athlete utilising RWL strategies.
